Jazz in Lavender festival slated for Sunday

SEQUIM — Jazz in the Lavender is set from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

The inaugural music festival will be at Purple Haze Lavender Farm, 180 Bell Bottom Road.

Admission is $10 at the gate. Children 14 and younger will be admitted free.

The festival will feature the Craig Buhler Jazz Trio, Jean Lenke’s Summer Jazz Band and Malo Castro’s WEPA Latin Jazz Dance Band.

Attendees can shop at the farm store, cut fresh lavender, enjoy lavender ice cream and lavender Julias, and Kelbi’s World Fairy Experience also will be on site for children’s exploration.

Buhler is a composer, recording artist, jazz saxophonist, vocalist, producer and educator who has been active in the Olympic Peninsula arts community for two decades. As a member of the California rock group Honk, Buhler has toured alongside The Beach Boys, Loggins & Messina and other top artists.

Lenke has been part of the regional jazz scene since she arrived in 2019.

Lenke, who performs with an acoustic trio, with the all-woman Rose Quintet or with her Jean Therapy West Band, will bring her seven-piece summer jazz band, which features Seattle-based saxophonist Tobi Stone, to Jazz in Lavender.

Castro’s WEPA combines elements of classic jazz, Latin, Brazilian and rock.

Saxophonist Craig Buhler and his jazz trio will perform at Purple Haze Lavender Farm on Sunday.
