Jack & Joe to perform at Friends Meetinghouse on Saturday

PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend Friends Meeting will host a benefit concert featuring Jack & Joe, a duo comprised of locals Jack Reid and Joe Breskin, at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The two will perform a western-tinged evening of Americana music at the Friends Meetinghouse, 1841 Sheridan St.

The Meetinghouse Concerts series is a benefit to raise money for the loan on the Friends Meetinghouse. Each concert begins with a dessert social at 6:30 p.m. A donation of from $5 to $50 is suggested; no one turned away for lack of money.

Jack & Joe have been playing music together for about four years, and each individually for more than 60.

Breskin, guitarist, has played just about every genre imaginable, and plays simply for the joy of playing with others.

Reid plays rhythm guitar but is primarily a singer.

He started out singing in church choirs, studied opera, sang folk music in the Baltimore/Washington area in the 1960s and finally landed in Port Townsend.

The two joined musical forces at local open mic sessions and discovered their similar history of watching the western serials at the movies when they were kids.

They loved the music of Gene Autry, Roy Rogers and others and it’s been a part of them ever since.

They love to share their love of Americana including cowboy music, folk, blues and Bluebelly Swing — a genre the duo believes listeners will understand once they hear it.
