PORT TOWNSEND — The 21st annual AAUW/UWF Kitchen Tour will highlight nine homes in the Port Townsend area Saturday.
The tour, Port Townsend Kitchens and Beyond, will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., beginning from the hospitality center at the First Presbyterian Church, 1111 Franklin St., Port Townsend.
Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 the day of the tour. They can be purchased online at https://www.brownpapertickets.com/ as well as at local retail outlets such as the Kitchen & Bath Studio, Quimper Mercantile, What’s Cookin’, The Chimacum Corner Farmstand, Over the Fence in Sequim and other local merchants.
Ticket holders will go to the hospitality center to pick up a tour passport, which will offer addresses and descriptions of the nine homes on the tour. Design seminars, raffle baskets and refreshments will be offered at the center.
The four free guest seminars are for those ticket holders interested in learning more about kitchen design, trends and financing.
They are:
• Beginning at 10:15 a.m. will be “Kitchen Work Surfaces,” a 30-minute seminar on how to choose the right countertop materials for you and your lifestyle, hosted by Laurabelle Ritter of Kitchen & Bath Studio.
• At 11:15 a.m., “Small Space Kitchen Design” will be hosted by Lynne Stryker of Spaces into Places, who also is serving as the publicity chairwoman for the tour.
Stryker is a certified kitchen designer and will present before and after examples of small kitchens she has designed, going over how to solve small space kitchen design dilemmas.
At 12:15 p.m. will be “Storage Solutions and Trends in Cabinetry” sponsored by Peninsula Cabinetry and Interiors of Port Hadlock. A seminar presenting cutting-edge storage options will be featured.
• The last presentation will be at 2:15 p.m. by Kit Malone, loan officer for Evergreen Home Loans, called “Adding Value: Financing Your Home Remodel or New Home.”
The seminars are free for all ticket passport holders for the tour.
The tour is sponsored by the American Association of University Women and the University Women’s Foundation. Proceeds will go toward scholarships for young Jefferson County women.
Last year alone, local Jefferson County young women were awarded more than $50,000 in scholarship money to attend college through the American Association of University Women/UWF, Stryker said.
This year’s plan is to award $70,000 in honor of the organization’s 70th anniversary, Stryker said.
Five of the homes on the tour are within walking distance of each other in Port Townsend’s Uptown. They include restored Victorians with both small and large kitchens, as well as a newly built home made to look like a historic carriage house.
A tiny house, a beachfront modern home, as well as a new-build chef’s kitchen, round out the nine homes featured on the tour.
