PORT TOWNSEND — Seattle Theatre Group will present Modest Mouse live in concert tonight and Saturday at McCurdy Pavilion at Fort Worden State Park.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for the 6:30 p.m. show.
This all-ages, outdoor festival features a local foods court, and a beer garden for patrons 21 years and older with valid identification.
Admission is $45, not including taxes and fees. Tickets can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com.
All tickets are general admission, rain or shine.
Guests are encouraged to bring low-backed chairs and blankets, and warm, layered clothing in case of inclement weather. No outside food or drink, pets, umbrellas or pop-up tents will be permitted.
Modest Mouse formed in 1993 in Issaquah and throughout the past decade has become an indie rock standard, according to a news release.
The band released their first full-length album, “This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About,” on the Up label in 1996.
With the release of their second album, “The Lonesome Crowded West in 1997,” the band’s status reached new heights with a legion of fans and critical acclaim, organizers said.
In 2000, Modest Mouse was signed to Epic Records and released their third album, “The Moon & Antarctica.”
In 2004 came the release of another album, “Good News for People Who Love Bad News,” which included the hit “Float On” and has sold more than 1.5 million copies and earned the band two Grammy nominations.
Modest Mouse released “We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank,” on March 20, 2007, and immediately entered the Billboard Top 200 chart at No. 1.
The band released their latest record, “Strangers to Ourselves” in March 2015.
Band members include Isaac Brock, lead vocals, guitars, banjo, keyboards; Jeremiah Green, drums, percussion; Tom Peloso, upright bass, horns, keyboards, bass guitar, vocals, fiddle; Jim Fairchild, guitars, backup vocals, ukulele, pump organ, banjo; Russell Higbee, bass guitar, vocals, guitars, pump organ; Lisa Molinaro, viola, bass, vocals, keyboards; Ben Massarella, percussion, effects.
A nonprofit arts organization, Seattle Theatre Group presents an average of 600 events annually at The Paramount, The Moore and The Neptune theaters as well as at venues throughout the region including Broadway productions, concerts, theater, lectures, education, community, film and other enrichment programs.
“STG’s mission and values align closely with that of the Fort Worden Lifelong Learning Center as they are dedicated to enriching arts education in the Pacific Northwest while stewarding its historic metropolitan theatres,” said Executive Director Dave Robison of the Fort Worden Public Development Authority.
Centrum, a nonprofit arts organization that has offered classes, workshops, and festival performances at Fort Worden since 1974, already maintains a close partnership with STG through its signature DANCE This! program, which brings together youth and adult performers from diverse communities for collaboration and to share their culture through the art of dance, according to a news release.
“We are very excited about this opportunity to expand our partnerships and programming at Fort Worden and in the arts community of Port Townsend, where we already have many natural synergies,” said Adam Zacks, chief programming officer for STG.
“A National Historic Landmark and a renowned destination for supporters of the arts, Fort Worden is an ideal setting for STG to strengthen our presence on the Olympic Peninsula.”
The 1,200-seat McCurdy Pavilion is a renovated balloon hangar from the 1920s and hosts a variety of performances, including mainstage concerts presented by Centrum featuring Grammy award-winning faculty artists.
“STG is coordinating with and utilizing as many local talents as possible, from Centrum’s production and lighting crew to assist with stage logistics, to Thunderbull Productions for event parking, to local food vendors to round out our festival area,” Zacks said.
