Hoot and Holler to play dance, concert in Port Townsend this weekend

PORT TOWNSEND — Hoot and Holler will inspire fancy footwork and toe-tapping while performing for a dance and a concert this weekend.

The duo of Mark Kilianski on guitar and Amy Alvey on fiddle will play for the Quimper Grange Square Dance and Social on Saturday and at an afternoon house concert Sunday.

Both performances will be at the Quimper Grange, 1219 Corona St.

Saturday’s dance will be from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., with jamming starting at 7 p.m. Local caller Dave Thielk will rap out the dance moves.

All dances will be taught, all ages and experiences levels are welcome and it is not necessary to bring a partner.

How much?

Admission will be $6 for adults, with those 16 and younger admitted free.

Sunday’s concert will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is by a suggested donation of $10 to $20.

Kilianski and Alvey are bi-coastal singer-songwriters and instrumentalists who have kicked off 2017 by releasing a new album, “Reasons to Run,” and embarking on their third annual West Coast tour with a stop in Port Townsend.

Hoot and Holler presents traditional songs with a contemporary edge on fiddle, guitar and banjo as well as original songs and compositions.

New releases offered

Kilianski and Alvey will offer new material from their latest album as well as previous releases, “Nothing If Not Young” and “Is This Goodbye.”

Their latest album, “Reasons to Run,” evokes the feeling of a cross-country road trip through the swamps of Louisiana and the deserts of New Mexico, according to the grange’s website at www.quimper grange.com.
