Home and kitchen tour set this month

PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend branch of the American Association of University Women will host its 26th Home and Kitchen Tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 27 and a virtual tour from April 24-30.

Tickets are $35 per person, $25 for association members, and are available online at www.porttownsendhomeand kitchentour.com.

Tickets to the tour include access to the virtual tour and presentations of additional homes.

The tour spans nine homes, all within walking distance of each other, in Uptown Port Townsend and a welcome center at 1111 Franklin St.

The Welcome Center will offer seminars by local experts on such topics as design for aging in place and net zero energy.

The tour will include a look inside the Windship, a modern architectural statement perched on Morgan Hill, with its soaring rooflines and expansive windows.

The tour also features the historic Starrett House, which was recently purchased by Bayside Housing to provide needed housing for women.

The Victorian home is known its floating staircase and colorful frescoes.

Visitors will also learn about Bayside’s plans for the future.

Ticket sales provide educational scholarships for East Jefferson County women and girls.

Last year, the Port Townsend branch, through its charitable arm, the University Women’s Foundation, granted more than $100,000 locally.

The grants supported the Tech Trek STEM summer camp for middle school girls, scholarships for higher education, and tuition assistance for women to attend graduate and trade schools.
