PORT TOWNSEND — Singer-Songwriter Ben Holmes will perform at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
Holmes will perform in the studio at Rainshadow Recording in Building 315 at Fort Worden, 315 Artillery Hill Drive.
Tickets are $20 per person at www.ticketstorm.com/e/29960/t or $25 at the door.
Doors open at 7 p.m. and admission to the live recording session cannot be guaranteed after 7:30 p.m.
Holmes will be joined by Bob Boulding on guitar and mandolin.
Holmes and Boulding formerly were bandmates in The Young Dubliners.
Holmes, a founding member, left the band in 2019 in pursuit of a solo career, releasing “Everything You Never Wanted” in 2021.
The album features contributions from Brett Anderson of the Donnas, Cindy Wasserman of Dead Rock West, session drummer Dave Raven, bassist Jayson Sites of Half Pint Jones, violinist Rachel Grace, keyboardist Tim Boland, drummer Ward Poulos as well as Pat D’Arcy on uilleann pipes, bodhran and whistles.
Holmes merges Americana, rock ‘n’ roll and stripped-down pop with a touch of Irish fighting spirit.
“I don’t set out to write a particular song or music,” Holmes said, “whatever comes out, I just go with it. There’s no particular theme to the record, either. As a sort of an outsider looking in, I’d say it’s about loss and heartbreak over a long span of time.”
Boulding was the lead guitarist for the Celtic rock band The Young Dubliners for 18 years, six albums and thousands of shows throughout the U.S. and Europe.
Since leaving the band, Boulding has focused on session work and returned to teaching, founding the SuperPowers Music Academy to teach guitar, ukulele, bass and mandolin.
