History Tales takes on Andrew Carnegie and his libraries

SEQUIM — Peggy Norris will explore the life of Andrew Carnegie at the Clallam County Historical Society’s History Tales presentation at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

The lecture will be at First United Methodist Church, 110 E. Seventh St.

The program will be in the social hall; parking and entry are on Laurel Street.

History Tales is free and open to the public.

Norris will talk about how Carnegie developed into the richest man in the world, and look to answer why he devoted his life and money to funding community library buildings.

Norris also will explain why the Port Angeles Carnegie Library building is unique, and why it took more than 15 years to get funding for the building.

Norris’ career as a reference librarian has taken her to the University of Oregon, the Dallas Public Library and the North Olympic Library System. After retirement, she dedicated her life to volunteer work.

She received a Community Service Award in 2015 and continues to volunteer for the Clallam County Historical Society, Kiwanis club and Angelcrest Gardens.

For more information, call the Clallam County Historical Society’s office at 360-452-2662 or email to artifact@olypen.com.
