History of bridal party fashions to be seen at fundraiser

PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Historical Society/North Olympic History Center’s annual fashion show fundraiser will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

“Celebrating 120 Years of Bridal Parties” will be at the Lincoln Center, 903 W. Ninth St. Doors will open at 9:30 a.m.

Ticket prices are $20 for Historical Society members and $25 for non-members. Tickets are available only in advance through the Historical Society office at 933 W. Ninth St., Port Angeles.

Light refreshments will be provided by Chestnut Cottage. A number of raffle baskets will be available, including a silk painting donated by Karen Sistek.

The Historical Society has dozens of wedding gowns in its collection, the oldest from 1898 and the most recent from 2003. These gowns, as well as 10 others spanning the decades from the 1890s through the 2000s, will be featured.

The most historic gown is the wedding suit that belonged to Caroline Jones Rixon, pioneer at Fairholme at the west end of Lake Crescent and the namesake of Mount Carrie in the Olympic Mountains.

Caroline and Theodore Rixon — government timber cruiser, surveyor and long-time Clallam County engineer — were married in 1899; the suit was donated to the Historical Society by their granddaughter.

For information, call the society office at 360-452-2662 or email artifact@olypen.com.
