Historic home tour offers glimpse into hidden treasure Sunday

PORT ANGELES — “If you grew up here, you know the house” — the all-white home at 504 S. Race St.

Jean Hordyk of Soroptimist International of Port Angeles Jet Set encourages the curious to come take a peek at the home from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.

Admission is by donation.

Proceeds from the tour go to support the seven to eight scholarships per year the Soroptimists award Port Angeles High School and Peninsula College students, Hordyk said.

“The home has been in hiding for many years and is now ready to welcome the curious to get a peek into the past mixed with modern touches,” she said in a news release.

The first owners of the house, built in 1929, were brothers Ferdinand “Fred” William and Edward “Ed” Schlager, who also owned eight greenhouses and a florist shop in downtown Port Angeles, according to the Clallam County Historical Society.

“It was a really, really beautiful home,” Hordyk said.

She could not say what renovations have been made throughout the years.
