‘Hillbilly Black Tie’ to raise funds for Forks visitor center

FORKS — Much of the West End is expected to step out for Saturday night’s 22nd annual Wine and Cheese Fundraiser at the Rainforest Arts Center.

Tickets are $20 per person for the event at 35 N. Forks Ave.

Admission includes two drink tickets. Specialty non-alcoholic drinks will be available, too, including root beer.

All ages are welcome. Tickets are available from the Forks Chamber of Commerce at 1411 S. Forks Ave. and Forks Outfitters, 950 S. Forks Ave., prior to the event and at the door.

The fundraiser, sponsored by the Forks Chamber of Commerce, will support the Visitor Information Center, said Executive Director Lissy Andros.

The theme for this year’s fundraiser is “Hillbilly Black Tie,” Andros said.

Many Forks-area residents don’t get many chances to dress up and go out, so the event is designed to accommodate just about every fashion taste, from jeans to black ties, gowns and tails, she said.

Music will be by Loose Gravel, a local bluegrass band from the Forks and Clallam Bay area — and while the event is not specifically a dance, plenty of attendees do, Andros said.

Andros is also excited about the food and drink.

Gordon Gibbs of Gibbs Consulting in Forks is brewing up a batch of his special homemade root beer, she said. Hors d’oeuvres will be prepared by Catering with the Castellanos, another Forks company.

The evening is more than a chance to dance, eat and drink, though. The Forks Chamber of Commerce announces its annual “Best of” winners for Business, Citizen and Volunteer of the Year.

In 2015, Blakeslee’s Bar and Grill received the Business of the Year honor. Dixie Gaydeski was named Citizen of the Year and Donna Kimball was Volunteer of the Year.

The chamber’s 2017 board of directors and at-large members will also be announced.

Last but not least, there will also be a silent auction with local products and services to bid on, Andros said.

“The auction should be a lot of fun,” she said.

“It takes a lot of people to make the information center a success,” she added, and the chamber relies on these revenues to help fund it.

More than 200 people typically attend this Forks event each year.
