Hickory Shirt Heritage Days continues in Forks

FORKS — Forks residents are welcoming autumn with a string of events celebrating Forks history and the logger’s favorite indomitable hickory shirt.

Hickory Shirt Heritage Days began Wednesday and will continue through Sunday. The theme is “Planes, Trains and Automobiles.”

Among the events, the annual Fish & Brew, Little Loggers Contest and dances are always well-attended and -received, said Lissy Andros, executive director of the Forks Chamber of Commerce.

For its part, the Timber Museum, 1421 S. Forks Ave., will grant free admission today and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The schedule of events follows:

Today

• 10:30 a.m. to noon — Children are invited to a special program at the Forks Library, 171 S. Forks Ave., for dressup and storytelling.

• 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. — Congregational Church’s 83rd annual Harvest Dinner takes place at 280 Spartan Ave.

• 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. — The Rain of Terror Haunted House opens for its season at Quillayute Airport, 5144 Quillayute Road.

Saturday

• 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. — The Far West Art League Art Show and Sale will feature art related to planes, trains and automobiles in the Rainforest Arts Center lobby, 35 N. Forks Ave.

• 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. — The 21st annual Fish and Brew will serve smoked fish and local brews, apple cider and root beer at the Rainforest Arts Center.

• 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. — Dance lessons are planned at the Rainforest Arts Center before the Choker Setter’s Ball.

• 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. — The Choker Setter’s Ball, open to all ages, encourages old-timey clothes and family fun at the Rainforest Arts Center.

• 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. — The Rain of Terror Haunted House opens for its second night of the season.

Sunday

• 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. — Far West Art League Art Show and Sale, a spinning demonstration, rock painting and a basket weaving class take place at the Rainforest Arts Center.

• 3 p.m. — Forks Outfitters, 950 S. Forks Ave., will host a pumpkin display, Little Loggers Contest and cross-cut saw demonstration.
