PORT TOWNSEND — Whether March comes in like a lamb or a lion, First Friday StoryNight at 7 tonight will perk the imagination and warm the heart, organizers promise.
Quimper Storytelling Guild will host the event at the Friends Meetinghouse, 1841 Sheridan St. The suggested donation is $10.
Perry Spring, singer-storyteller and founding organizer of the Guild, will be master of ceremonies.
The evening’s featured guest teller is Rebecca Hom of Shelton. Her program “Stories, Stories Everywhere … Which One Do You Tell?” will draw from personal, myth and folk stories. She will call on the gathered listeners to select the stories to be told.
An open mic will follow Hom’s featured presentation. Attendees sign up in advance to engage the oral tradition through sharing their stories, songs,or spoken poetry. Spring will close the evening with tales and songs reflecting the evening’s theme.
Hom never knew she would someday be a storyteller, but over three decades, the thread of story has connected her with people across the country and on six continents.
She vividly illustrates stories with “word pictures,” taking the listener from present reality to incredible imagination and safely back again. She is a leading member of the South Sound Story Guild, the artistic director for Port Angeles’ Forest Storytelling Festival, and founder of Fanning The Embers regional storytelling retreat celebrating its 13th year this April.
First Friday Story Night is a monthly community exploration of the art and ritual of the oral tradition through sharing of old myths, folktales, fairy tales, family, personal and modern stories.
The Quimper Storytelling Guild also hosts a Third Sunday StoryCrafting at PT Library at 2:30 p.m. for aspiring and experienced tellers to develop and enhance their craft.
