SEQUIM — “A Conversation with Hattie McDaniel” and “Hazel Speaks!” — two one-act plays written, produced and directed by Rebecca Redshaw — are set for 7:30 tonight and Saturday night, and at 2 p.m. Sunday.
The performances will be at the Olympic Theatre Arts’ Caldwell Main Stage, 414 N. Sequim Ave.
Reserved seating tickets are $15. Tickets are available online at olympic theatrearts.org, at the theater box office from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. They will be door at the door if available.
McDaniel, best known for her Academy Award winning performance in “Gone with the Wind,” fought racism in Hollywood but also with leaders of the NAACP.
Wolf, who was raised on the Olympic Peninsula, was a major force in establishing ecology protections and the Audubon society.
The performances are in celebration of International Women’s Month, which is March.
Redshaw points out that local talent that will participate in the performances. Half live in Sequim, half in Port Angeles.
Represented are woman of color (African-American and Native American), straight and gay, divorced and married with children, single without children and seniors as well as women way below Social Security eligibility.
“These two women of different generations personify strength and determination,” Redshaw said.
“Hattie and Hazel used intellect and humor to create change. Yes, it’s International Women’s Month, but men will enjoy these plays, too.”
