Harbor Art Gallery back open

PORT ANGELES — After a boiler malfunction left Harbor Art Gallery closed during February, the artist cooperative is open for business once more.

Located at 114 North Laurel St. in downtown Port Angeles, Harbor Art Gallery will feature the artwork of Jennifer and Davis Stevenson throughout March.

Harbor Art Gallery will be open during Port Angeles Second Saturday Art Walk until 7 p.m. Then, visitors can meet with the Stevensons and other artists who are part of the cooperative.

The gallery’s regular hours are from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Using recycled local woods and materials, the Stevensons create jewelry and housewares that highlight the natural beauty of the region, while minimizing waste in every stage of production.

Under the name Northwest Beach Works, the Stevensons share their passion for the beauty and wildness of the Pacific Northwest.

In addition to jewelry made of beach glass and pebbles, the Stevensons handcraft functional and artistic pieces such as bowls, rolling pins, cutting boards, pens, bottle stoppers and openers, using primarily local and salvaged materials.

“In the woodshop, larger projects produce scraps that are made into smaller items,” Jennifer said. “Bowl cutoffs become pens and bottle stoppers, cutting board remnants become bottle openers and coasters, etc.”

All of the wood for the bowls and most of the pens is sourced locally, and much of it is saved from the burn pile.

For items that require kiln dried wood, such as cutting boards and rolling pins, they purchase wood locally and are sure to use every scrap. The beach glass and pebbles used in the jewelry comes from the Olympic Peninsula’s beaches.

The gallery also showcases work by local artists Bob Stokes and Cindy Elstrom, Carolyn Guske, Robert Amaral, Kelly Coffey, Garret Delabarre, Terri Ench, Tammy Hall, David Johannessohn, Susan Kantowitz, Ruth Kaspin, Nancy McFaul, Gail McLain, Roger Mosley, Eric Neurath, Miranda Petruska, Randy and Sallie Radock, Jodi Riverstone, Nathan Shields, Lance and Haley Snider, Eileen Webb and Kevin Willson.
