Gypsy swing to be heard in Coyle concert

COYLE — Gypsy swing guitarist Luca Pino will bring his quartet, Pino Noir, to Concerts in the Woods for a matinee show from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Special guest and a veteran of Concerts in the Woods will be Ranger Sciacca at the performance at Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road in Coyle.

Admission is by donation only. The suggested donation is $20.

Los Angeles-born guitarist Pino leads a young group of musicians through arrangements by Django Reinhardt.

“The band creates a cutting soundscape of bebop and swing, all the while maintaining an authentic identity in the gypsy jazz style of the ’30s and ’40s,” organizers said.

Pino has been playing Django-inspired music since his high school days, organizers said, while Bainbridge Island’s award-winning gypsy swing artist, Ranger Sciacca, has been a frequent performer at Concerts in the Woods with his band The Re-Arrangers.

“Concerts in the Woods hosts believe Pino Noir and Ranger Sciacca together will be the perfect way to kick off the Fall 2023 segment of this much-loved concert series in Coyle,” according to a press release.
