Guild hosts story swap for tellers, listeners this Sunday

PORT TOWNSEND — Storytellers and listeners will gather for the monthly Quimper Story Guild’s story swap Sunday.

The story swap will be from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Port Townsend Library Learning Center, 1256 Lawrence St.

The afternoon will feature a story swap by up to seven tellers as well as activities and discussion to enhance the craft of storytelling. The first half-hour is for planning and socializing.

The guild welcomes listeners, those new to storytelling, and aspiring and seasoned tellers.

Each teller has five minutes to tell a story and the option of attendees “feeding the story” or “feeding the teller.”

In this way, listeners get a couple of minutes to highlight what element, character or moment of the story stood out for them, or highlight what was noteworthy about the way the teller conveyed the story.

Attendees can sign up to tell when they arrive; availability is on a first-come basis. Stories are told, not read. Use of character voices, gestures, music and props to enhance the telling of a story is welcome.

Stories shared last month included an English tragedy, Japanese bakery dispute and Southern birthday gift tall tale.

Launched in March 2017, the Quimper Story Guild was organized to foster an appreciation for the art and tradition of storytelling in Jefferson County communities.

The group meets on the third Sunday of every month. For more information, contact co-organizer Perry Spring at 360-316-9600 or Quimper StoryGuild@gmail.com.
