Guided walk to explore Tamanowas Rock this Saturday

CHIMACUM — The Jefferson Land Trust will offer a guided walk at Tamanowas Rock from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

The entrance to Tamanowas Rock is on Anderson Lake Road in Chimacum.

From Rhody Drive, travel past Coho Evergreen SKP RV Park and take the second turnout to the right.

The turnout will be marked with a Jefferson Land Trust sign and the gate will be open for parking.

Tamanowas Rock has been a sacred place and pilgrimage site for local tribes for more than 10,000 years.

The rock itself is 47 million years old, and the surrounding hills and forests support an unusual array of plants and wildlife.

Hikers are urged to bring water and sturdy shoes and to dress for the weather.

Trails are uneven with some steep slopes.

There is no need to RSVP, but those with questions can contact the land trust at info@saveland.org or 360-379-9501.
