Great Strait Sale to celebrate 11th anniversary

The Great Strait Sale marks its 11th anniversary with 61 miles of sales from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The rummage sale is the longest most of us will ever see, presented among some of the loveliest scenery the North Olympic Peninsula offers, according to a press release.

The sale stretches along the Strait of Juan de Fuca Scenic Byway — state Highway 112 — from the junction of U.S. Highway 101 and state Highway 112 west of Port Angeles to Neah Bay.

Community sites for flea market-style sales are set up at the Joyce Depot Museum — usually the largest with between 20 and 30 vendors — Clallam Bay Visitor Center and Neah Bay Village Market.

All along the route will be individual garage sales. Participating businesses also run specials the day of the sale.

Offered will be “sales of arts and crafts to household goods, knick-knacks to antiques, shop tools to baked goods,” said Sande Balch, chair of the sale.

The variety of goods offered “has drawn increasingly larger crowds each year,” Balch said.

Book signing

At the Joyce Depot Museum, 50883 state Highway 112, author Teresa Schoeffel-Lingvall will sign copies of her book “Olympic Hot Springs.”

Joyce will host a community sale site at the museum along with artwork from Jody Bergsma — including San Juan abstracts and some uncirculated prints.

Across from the Joyce General Store is the newly opened Art and Antiques Store.

Also new this year is the Joyce farmers’ market on the east side of town.

In Clallam Bay and Sekiu will be several sales, including one estate sale on Vista Drive west of Sekiu.

A community sale is planned at the Village Market in Neah Bay.

Flyers with advertised sales are available at Lairds Corner Market, online at www.highway112.org and on the day of sale at the community sites, Balch said.
