Great Strait Sale to celebrate 10th anniversary

It’s the longest rummage sale most of us will ever see.

And it’s set among some of the loveliest scenery the North Olympic Peninsula offers.

The 10th annual Great Strait Sale will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

It stretches 61 miles along the Strait of Juan de Fuca Scenic Byway — state Highway 112 — from the junction of U.S. Highway 101 and state Highway 112 west of Port Angeles to Neah Bay.

Community sites for flea market-style sales are set up at the Joyce Depot Museum, Clallam Bay Visitor Center and Neah Bay Village Market.

All along the route will be individual garage sales.

“Sales of homemade pies to household goods, knickknacks to saddles, shop tools to antiques and even a truck have drawn an increasingly larger crowd each year,” said Sande Balch, coordinator and member of the Juan de Fuca Scenic Byway Association.

“Participating businesses run specials the day of the sale. Participants enjoy the scenery and the adventure while shopping for their own personal treasure.”

This year, a birthday party twist will be added to celebrate this decade milestone.

A drawing for a birthday cake will take place at the Joyce site at 1:12 p.m.

Participants do not need to be present to win.

The Clallam Bay site will feature the bluegrass music of Mary and Barney at 11 a.m., followed by the musical variety of Buddy Cloy at noon.

Flyers with advertised sales are available at Laird Corner Market, online at www.highway112.org and on the day of sale at the community sites, Balch said.
