Fungi festival set at Clallam County fairgrounds this weekend

PORT ANGELES — The fourth Olympic Peninsula Fungi Festival will explore the world of mycology on Saturday and Sunday.

Most of the festival’s activities will be at the Clallam County Fairgrounds, 1608 W. 16th St., Port Angeles.

Festival tickets and on-site camping reservations are available at www.olypen fungifest.com.

The vendor hall at the fairgrounds will be open from 8:25 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 8:25 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

The hall will host more than 40 craft, art and farm vendors along with 15 interactive educational booths in the educational building.

The festival also will present 18 speakers at the main stage, including Michael Beug, Graham Steinruck, Amy Honan, Larry Evans and Robert Rogers.

The workshop building will offer hands-on workshops in mushroom identification, cultivation and dyeing.

There will be a number of pre-festival special events on Thursday and Friday. These activities are ticketed separately and are not part of the main festival schedule.

Pre-festival events include Elwha field trips to a fungal diversity survey site in Olympic National Park on Thursday and Friday, a keynote dinner featuring Langdon Cook at Field Arts & Events Hall on Friday, and guided field presentations on Friday by Larry Evans at the Elk Creek Conservation Area near Forks and Chris Adams at the Salt Creek Recreation Area near Joyce.
