Fulton Street Chamber Players to perform at Concerts in the Barn

QUILCENE — The Fulton Street Chamber Players will perform cello quintets by Franz Schubert and Alexander Glazunov at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The players are returning for the eighth season of Concerts in the Barn, 7360 Center Road.

In addition to the weekend performances, there will be an open rehearsal at 2 p.m. Friday.

The open rehearsals are a new feature at the barn this year, allowing a less-formal performance as well as a weekday listening option.

The concerts are free, but attendees are to reserve seats at www. ticketstripe.com/event-list/concerts-in-the-barn.

Quintet members violinist Cordula Merks, cellist Walter Gray and violist Rachel Swerdlow performed with the group during its previous visit to the barn; cellist Stephen Balderston and violinist John Weller have joined the group since then.

The weekend’s program includes Alexander Glazunov’s Cello String Quintet in A Major, Op. 39 (1892) and Franz Schubert’s Cello String Quintet in C Major, D. 956.

Patrons have the option of sitting inside on comfortable chairs, in the loft or listening outside on the lawn.

Concertgoers are encouraged to arrive as early as noon to enjoy a picnic lunch or stroll through the grounds.

The Carpe Diem String Quartet will perform June 29-30, and Kaimerata Concerts will complete the season on Aug. 3-4.
