“From the Ashes” returns to Studio Bob

PORT ANGELES — A production spearheaded by Merryn Welch, “From the Ashes,” will return to Studio Bob on Saturday.

The show is intended to raise awareness as well as funding for Healthy Families of Clallam County, a nonprofit organization that helps victims of domestic violence.

“From the Ashes” will be at 8 p.m. Saturday at Studio Bob, 118½ E. Front St., with doors opening at 7:30 p.m. The show is recommended for those 16 and up.

Admission is $15 at the door. Tickets also are available through brownpaper tickets.

The show was performed in 2015 at Sutdio Bob. Welch, the organizer, donated proceeds to Healthy Families of Clallam County. The agency provides help for anyone affected by domestic violence; the 24-hour crisis line is 360-452-HELP (4357) while the offices can be reached at 360-452-3811.

Alongside Welch on Saturday will be Richard Stephens, longtime theater director and costumer, who will be emceeing as well as performing along with Welch.

The two-hour show will have a wide variety of acts. Live music, dance, spoken word, performance art by artists Improv Without A Net Troupe, Kat Hollywood, Craig Logue, Preston Hughes, Wyk Dreamcaster, Kaitlan Cargo, Gabbi Gallagher, Transcend, Taña Villella and belly dance troupe, Shula Azhar.

Welch, a survivor herself, noted that October is national Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

“It’s very personal to me, as well as to the performers who will take the stage with me, as most have had their lives or the lives of loved ones affected by domestic violence themselves,” she said in a press release.

“Violence by an intimate partner happens more than people realize. Statistics show one in four women and one in seven men are, or will be victims and Washington state ranks eighth in states with the highest rates of domestic violence,” she continued.

”It’s important that we talk about it and do what we can as a community, to raise awareness and help victims.”
