PORT TOWNSEND — The Hermitage Piano Trio — consisting of pianist Ilya Kazantsev, cellist Sergey Antonov and violinist Misha Keylin — will share their mastery of classical Russian and European music during an intimate performance this weekend at Fort Worden State Park.
The performance is set for 2 p.m. Sunday at Joseph F. Wheeler Theater, 25 Eisenhower Way.

This performance is the first of five in the 2016-2017 Port Townsend Chamber Music Series organized by the Centrum Foundation.
“I first heard the trio’s cellist, Sergey Antonov, at a concert at USC,” said Lucinda Carver, Centrum’s Artistic Director for Chamber Music, in a news release.
“I was absolutely blown away by his playing. He demonstrated such a variety of tonal and musical imagination and had a phenomenal command of the instrument.”
During the concert, the trio will perform Josef Suk’s “Elegie, Op.23,” Felix Mendelssohn’s “Trio No. 2 in C minor, Op. 66,” Mikhail Glinka’s “Trio Pathetique,” and Dmitri Shostakovich’s “Trio No. 2 in E minor, Op. 67.”
When performing live, the trio strives to take the audience “on a journey, which has to be balanced but yet entertaining,” Keylin said in a news release.
“We always try to include at least two different [and] contrasting periods so that it all doesn’t sound the same. Imagine having a meal at a fine restaurant. If you just ate three or four desserts, how would you feel?”
Formed in 2011
The Hermitage Trio was formed in 2011 and has performed for audiences on major chamber music series in Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C, according to www.hermit agepianotrio.com.
Recently signed to a multiple-album recording deal with Reference Recordings, the Trio’s debut album – to be recorded in 2017 – will comprise the piano trios of Sergey Rachmaninov’s “Trio élégiaque No. 1 in G minor,” “Trio élégiaque No. 2 in D minor, Op. 9” and “Vocalise.”
Based in the U.S., the trio has taught at prestigious schools across the country and recorded for Naxos and ALM Records, according to the news release.
Cellist Sergey Antonov is the artistic director of the concert series for the Chamber Music Foundation of New England and gold prize winner at the VIII International Tchaikovsky Competition.
