Free poetry reading in Railroad Bridge Park on Sunday

SEQUIM — “A Droplet of Wild Hope from the Epicenter.” “Writing from the Edge.” “Fan Tan Alley.”

These are a few poems to be unleashed Sunday in an outdoor reading celebrating the new book “Keep a Green Bough: Voices from the Heart of Cascadia.” The public is invited to this event at 4 p.m. in the amphitheater at Railroad Bridge Park, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road, where admission is free.

“Keep a Green Bough” was published this summer by Empty Bowl press and its “Madrona Project” journal of prose and poetry. Its pages travel, in words and visual art, around the Pacific Northwest to the traditional lands of the Coast Salish and other native tribes.

The local poets and authors set to appear in Sunday’s reading include Tess Gallagher, Meredith Parker, Alice Derry, Risa Denenberg, Carmen Germaine, Kathryn Hunt, Paula MacKay, K’Ehleyr McNulty, Mary Morgan, Kate Reavey and Charlotte Warren.

Holly J. Hughes, editor of the book, will introduce it and read from the preface penned by Washington state poet laureate Rena Priest. Books will be available for purchase for $16; buyers are asked to bring cash or a check.
