The Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce and city of Sequim will host the season’s first free summer outdoor concerts next week.
Black Diamond Junction will perform classic rock and country from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the James Center for the Performing Arts at Carrie Blake Park, 350 N. Blake Ave. in Sequim, in the first concert of the 2017 Music in the Park schedule.
On Wednesday, The Crocs will play an eclectic mixture of improvisational, indie, funk, Latin, reggae, folk and rock from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at City Pier at Lincoln Street and Railroad Avenue in the season’s first in the Concerts on the Pier series.
Port Townsend’s Concerts on the Dock will begin July 13, when Joy in Mudville will perform.

Music in the Park
Sequim’s Music in the Park will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. each Tuesday through Aug. 29, with one exception: The Sequim City Band will perform at 3 p.m. on the Fourth of July.
Attendees are encouraged to cozy up with chairs, blankets and picnic dinners at the James Center for the Performing Arts.
The Aug. 8 show will not feature any one performer; many voices are encouraged to participate in Sequim’s annual karaoke night. It is back this year by popular demand, the city said.

• Fourth of July — Sequim City Band at 3 p.m.; patriotic music.
• July 11 — Joy in Mudville; folk.
• July 18 — Lukas Rose Quartet; country with swing.
• July 25 — Craig Buhler Quartet; jazz.
• Aug. 1 — Blue Rhinos; dance blues infused with Latin and funk.
• Aug. 8 — Annual Karaoke Night.
• Aug. 15 — Caribe Steel Band; steel drum band.
• Aug. 22 — Navy Band of the Northwest; popular music.
• Aug. 29 — Stardust Big Band; Big Band era music.
Concerts on the Pier
Familiarity is often associated with the humdrum. But for Port Angeles residents, summer breeds familiarity at its sweetest.
The 2017 Concerts on the Pier will bring a lineup of mostly familiar names and a setting acutely familiar to residents: quietly lapping ocean, still boats at anchor and Olympic mountains in view.
In addition to popular local bands, bands from Seattle; Portland, Ore.; and elsewhere will perform for the first time at the Concerts on the Pier series.
The only band that will be repeated from the past two years is Black Diamond Junction, which was voted the most popular band on the North Olympic Peninsula in 2016.
Concerts promise a low-key, family-friendly atmosphere every Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. throughout the summer, excepting July 5, until Sept. 20.
Audience members are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs to the informal, family-friendly performances. No smoking is permitted on City Pier.
Should wind or rain dare to make an appearance, concerts will be relocated to the covered Gateway Plaza one block away.
Vendors, including the Hot Dog Cafe, will roll in for the occasion — plus, this year will introduce a beer garden.

• July 19 — Fox & Bones; folk pop duo with a hint of soul.
• July 26 — The Olson Bros Band; pop country.

• Aug. 9 — Blue Rhinos; blues.
• Aug. 16 — Testify; classic rock, blues and Southern rock.
• Aug. 23 — Black Door Alley; folk rock.
• Aug. 30 — Geoffrey Castle; violin virtuoso.
• Sept. 6 — The Olympic Express; big-band sound.
• Sept. 13 — Black Rock; classic rock.
• Sept. 20 — Ranger & the “Re-Arrangers”; Gypsy jazz and swing.
Port Townsend Concerts on the Dock
Main Street’s Concerts on the Dock will come to Pope Marine Plaza every Thursday from July 13 to Aug. 31. Seating opens at 4:30 p.m., and concerts last from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Concerts are for all ages. Like Port Angeles’ Concerts on the Pier, Pope Marine Plaza features a serene waterfront setting. Local vendors and a beer, wine and cider garden will provide food and drink for the occasion.
