Free outdoor concerts open in Port Townsend, continue in Port Angeles, Sequim

Port Townsend will kick off its summer of free outdoor concerts, Concerts on the Dock, on Thursday.

Joy in Mudville will perform music with influences from old-time bluegrass, folk, rock, country, blues and funk from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Pope Marine Park. Seating opens at 4:30 p.m.

A new band is planned at each Thursday’s performance through Aug. 31.

New this year are stainless steel pint cups and LaughinGnome Pottery cups available for rental for $5 for drinks. When the cups are returned, the money is refunded.

“Help us go green and use this option during the series,” said Port Townsend Main Street, which hosts the shows.

Joy in Mudville also will perform at the city of Sequim’s free Music in the Park series, which continues next week from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the James Center for the Performing Arts at Carrie Blake Park, 350 N. Blake Ave.

The Fabulous Murphtones will perform rock ‘n’ roll from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce’s free concerts on the Pier at City Pier at Lincoln Street and Railroad Avenue.

Here is more information on the free summertime shows:

Music in the Park

Sequim’s Music in the Park will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. each Tuesday through Aug. 29.

Attendees are encouraged to cozy up with chairs, blankets and picnic dinners at the James Center for the Performing Arts.

The Aug. 8 show will not feature any one performer; many voices are encouraged to participate in Sequim’s annual karaoke night. It is back this year by popular demand, the city said.

The rest of the summer’s lineup, which can be found at www.sequimwa.gov, is:

• July 18 — Lukas Rose Quartet; country with swing.

• July 25 — Craig Buhler Quartet; jazz.

• Aug. 1 — Blue Rhinos; dance blues infused with Latin and funk.

• Aug. 8 — Annual Karaoke Night.

• Aug. 15 — Caribe Steel Band; steel drum band.

• Aug. 22 — Navy Band of the Northwest; popular music.

• Aug. 29 — Stardust Big Band; Big Band era music.

Concerts on the Pier

Concerts on the Pier will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. every Wednesday through Sept. 20.

Concerts promise a low-key, family-friendly atmosphere.

Audience members are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs to the informal, family-friendly performances.

No smoking is permitted on City Pier.

Should wind or rain dare to make an appearance, concerts will be relocated to the covered Gateway Plaza one block away.

Vendors, including the Hot Dog Cafe, will roll in for the occasion — plus, this year will introduce a beer garden.

The rest of the summer lineup, which can be found at www.portangeles.org, is:

• July 19 — Fox & Bones; folk pop duo with a hint of soul.

• July 26 — The Olson Bros Band; pop country.

• Aug. 2 — Black Diamond Junction; classic rock and country.

• Aug. 9 — Blue Rhinos; blues.

Port Townsend Concerts on the Dock

Main Street’s Concerts on the Dock are for all ages.

Like Port Angeles’ Concerts on the Pier, Pope Marine Plaza features a serene waterfront setting. Local vendors and a beer, wine and cider garden will provide food and drink for the occasion.

The concerts are sponsored by Homer Smith Insurance, Kitsap Credit Union, Uptown Pub & Grill, Windermere Real Estate, LaughinGnome Pottery, KPTZ 91.9 FM, The Peninsula Daily News, and the City of Port Townsend.

The rest of the summer lineup, which can be found at ptmainstreet.org/ concerts-on-the-dock, is:
