Free open art studio Saturday in Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND — Northwind Art School will open its classroom from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday for creative studio time, complete with art supplies on hand.

The host is Glo Lamson, a multifaceted local artist, and admission is free, while a $20 donation at the door is recommended. The proceeds will support Northwind Art’s scholarship program for all ages.

The school, formerly known as the Port Townsend School of the Arts, is located at Fort Worden State Park; this open studio will be held in the classroom in Building 324, where new lighting has been recently installed.

“Come with an idea of something you want to do or make, or let the moment and the community environment inspire you,” Lamson said, adding participants can use Northwind’s collage materials and other supplies or bring their own.

“You never know what might show up until you give yourself time and space to explore,” she said.

Artists of all kinds are invited to come for the entire time, or pop in and out, or just stop by to say hello. More details and advance signup are available on the Courses page at https://northwindart.org.

Northwind Art School is offering dozens of courses and workshops this winter for youngsters and adults. The website has information about all of them.

“We have art classes for absolute beginners on up to professional artists,” said Northwind Art communications manager Diane Urbani.

“The school is a great place to connect with people in a relaxed, supportive environment,” she said.
