PORT ANGELES — The Second Saturday Art Walk in Port Angeles, set from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., will feature fractals at Studio Bob and nature photography at Harbor Arts.
“Fractal World Explorations” by Cory Ench will open at Studio Bob, 118½ E. Front St., on Saturday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with live music by Tin Sandwich.
The show continues from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday.
It is free for all ages and open to well-behaved dogs.
Ench is a visual artist who has lived and worked on the North Olympic Peninsula since the late 1980s.
“I make art because it is a personal need to be creative in that way, and it has been an anchor in my life since I was very young,” Ench said.
He holds a fine arts degree from Cornish Institute in Seattle. He did additional anatomy studies at the University of Washington’s medical school to improve his understanding of classical figure painting. His work includes numerous public art projects. Most familiar locally are the Kalakala ferry mural in downtown Port Angeles and the two-section Ennis Creek mural on Port Angeles City Pier.
He has also created murals for Olympic National Park and the Sequim Museum and Arts. He taught art classes at Peninsula College.
Ench has done posters for major festivals, including Burning Man and Seattle Hempfest.
His illustration work received the Chesley Award for Best Book Cover Illustration (Magazine) 2007 and Artist Guest of Honor at two sci-fi conventions including NORWESCON 40 in Seattle.
Most of Ench’s work has been paintings, drawings and sculptures inspired by natural forms and patterns. In the mid-1990s, this led him into an extensive exploration of the possibilities of fractal art imagery.
His work demonstrates how fractal patterns are a universal expression in nature and the visible universe.
His pioneering “Fractal World Art Explorations” was included in two international exhibits. He was a juror for the Mandelbrot International Fractal Art Competition after winning that contest twice and being included in two European art exhibits.

Harbor Arts
The Harbor Art Gallery in Port Angeles will feature the nature photography of Becky Stinnett throughout the month of February.
Harbor Art Gallery, at 114 N. Laurel St., is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Visitors can meet many of the artists at the gallery during the Second Saturday Art Walk.
“In 2013, my career brought me to Washington state’s Olympic Peninsula from the Midwest, and I immediately fell in love,” Stinnett said.
“I was in awe, finding myself surrounded by craggy snow-capped mountains, towering old-growth forests and the wild Pacific coast. I found peace like I have never felt before; I was (and still am) constantly inspired by the breathtaking landscapes that define this region.”
Stinnett earned a bachelor’s degree in nuclear medicine technology from the University of Wisconsin in her home state before landing in Port Angeles with her partner, dog and cat.
After picking up a DSLR camera in 2016, Stinnett said her relationship with the outdoors rapidly flourished.
“I’m extremely fortunate to explore wild places that few others have the opportunity to, and I want to share these sights with others,” Stinnett said.
Today, her work can be seen at Harbor Art Gallery in Port Angeles and at annual art shows curated by ArtWorks2 in Port Townsend.
