Fourth festivals to light up Neah Bay, Chimacum

The annual Independence Day celebrations in Port Angeles, Port Townsend and Forks won’t be the only shows of patriotism on the Fourth of July or the weekend preceding it on the North Olympic Peninsula.

Others are scheduled.

Street fair

Neah Bay will bring back its annual Fourth of July street fair, including a parade, food vendors, field events, face painting and a drawing for fireworks packs.

Parade-goers will meet at the parking lot of the Makah Museum, 1880 Bayview Ave., at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Bikers are invited to decorate their bikes for the parade. Decorations will be available at the lot.

The parade will begin at 11 a.m.

Food — including hot dogs, chicken kabobs, watermelon, chips and water — will be ready by noon.

Field events, such as relay races, a watermelon eating contest, a bunny hop race and two- and three-legged races, will kick off around the same time. Cash prizes provide an extra incentive to compete.

A food purchase automatically enters you into a drawing for fireworks packs — one entry per person. The winner will be announced at 1:30 p.m.

Festival in Chimacum

Finnriver Farm and Cidery, 124 Center Road, will host a weekend of bluegrass tunes, food and drink to celebrate the red, white and blue(grass).

On Saturday, Million Dollar Nile — a Seattle-based eco-bluegrass band — will perform from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. A $5 cover is suggested.

On Sunday, the Powell Mountain Bluegrass Band will perform from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Food to complement the bluegrass includes wood-fired pizza, la crepe de la Quimper, Hama Hama oysters, bratwurst and salads.

Family picnic

Families are invited to the Friends of Chimacum Creek’s Fourth of July picnic from noon to 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Those interested are asked to bring their own picnic, beverages and seating to Irondale Beach Park, 562 Monroe St. in Port Hadlock.
