Younger years in Sequim

Prior to aspiring stardom, Bryan spent some of her younger years in Sequim as a student which included singing with Sequim High School’s choirs and performing as Ariel in the “Footloose” operetta.

Bryan said in a previous interview there weren’t a ton of performing opportunities in Sequim, so she started her music career in a low-key way by playing guitar in front of Jose’s Famous Salsa. She later moved with her family in October 2015 from Sequim to Nashville, Tenn., to pursue music full-time.

Since her time in Sequim, Bryan has racked up achievements such as being named an “Artist to Watch” by numerous major music outlets, and played across the globe and in some of country music’s biggest festivals, headlined her own tours and opened for Lizzo and many other popular acts.

Her new song “play w/ me” follows releases in recent years including “Own It,” her first single that debuted No. 60 on the U.S. Country Airplay chart, and the extended play release of “Perspective” in October.

Bryan co-wrote “play w/ me” in a 1990s R&B style as a send-off to a guy who won’t quit playing games, she said.

“(The song) feels like the first taste and statement of where I’m at musically right now in this very moment,” Bryan said in a press release.

“I’m coming from the most confident place I’ve ever made music, and I’m so happy I get to put these experiences into words. I’m writing about dating around and upholding my own standards.”

For the song, she worked with production team Monsters & Strangerz with Bryan giving her guidance that “‘there needs to be a guitar.”
