Folk songwriter returns to Coyle

COYLE — Folk songwriter Jaspar Lepak will perform with her husband, Kale Lepak, as a duo during Concerts in the Woods at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

It will be the fourth appearance of the twosome at the concert at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road, at the end of the Toandos Peninsula.

Admission will be by donation.

“Every time I hear her music I am reminded why I keep inviting her back for more,” said series organizer Norm Johnson.

“Jaspar has a beautiful voice and writes lyrics that contain equally beautiful storytelling. Her concerts leave you with a warm, comfortable feeling of music done right.”

Her songs are influenced by the places in which she has lived — Tucson, Ariz.; Minneapolis; Durban in South Africa; and currently Seattle.

She began writing songs in 2002 while living in Minneapolis. Between 2004 and 2009, she recorded five albums, and in the fall of 2009, she moved to Durban, South Africa, with her husband Kale.

There, her 2011 album, “Forgiving Wind” was hailed by Rolling Stone South Africa as full of “beauty and original charm.”

She moved to Seattle in 2012 and released her eighth CD “Close to Me” in September 2017.

“Jaspar Lepak’s crystalline voice and lyrical phrasing is a wonder, a beacon of true musicality,” said Tom May of River City Folk.

“Listening to her evocative songs sung with that gorgeous voice, I am reminded of how I felt as a young man, the first time I heard Joni Mitchell. Jaspar Lepak is a special talent whose presentation transcends age, styles and fads.”

Complimentary cookies and coffee will be served at intermission.
