Folk singer to perform in Coyle

COYLE — Appalachian-Americana folk singer Ash Devine will play a matinee show at Concerts in the Woods in Coyle at 3 p.m. Sunday.

The concert will be at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road in Coyle.

Admission is by donation only. The suggested donation is $20.

Devine — a songwriter, ukulele and guitar player — is known as a folk troubadour because she writes, collects and performs cross-genre music based on numerous folk traditions including original Americana and indie-folk-rock, traditional Appalachian old time, contemporary folk, country blues, historic bluegrass, folk revival, classic rock and international folk music, organizers said.

Devine has self-produced two albums of original music and is working on two more recording projects which are to be released in 2023.

Born and raised in the Appalachian region of southwestern Virginia, Devine lived in Asheville, N.C., for over 17 years. There, she developed her songwriting career and delved into Appalachian folk music traditions.

She tours nationally and internationally, performing over 100 shows year in reputable music venues, festivals, house concerts, health care facilities and educational settings.

A community-based artist at her core, Devine has a bachelor’s in theater and community arts from UNC Asheville, and a graduate certificate in gerontology from Appalachian State University.

Devine directs and produces multi-artist shows, and she designs and facilitates therapeutic music-based programs for older adults and multi-generational groups in health care, and in educational settings.
