Fly-tying, square dance and more set for Friday

Fly-tying and a square dance are planned Friday on the North Olympic Peninsula.

Fly-tying demo

PORT TOWNSEND — Bob Triggs will offer a fly-tying demonstration from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday.

The demonstration will be at Port Townsend Library, 1220 Lawrence St.

Triggs is a lifelong fisherman, boater and outdoorsman.

He began his guiding career in 1994 and since then has guided in New England, New York, Alaska, Kamchatka in Russia and the Olympic Peninsula.

His articles and essays on the fishing life have appeared in Fly Fisherman Magazine, Fly Fishing in Salt Waters, Heading Out, The Yale Angler’s Journal, Land Rover Journal and numerous regional outdoors publications and newspapers.

Conversation Cafe

PORT TOWNSEND — Conversation Cafe will meet from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday.

The group meets at Alchemy Restaurant, 842 Washington St.

This week’s topic is “Space exploration.”

Story Slam

PORT TOWNSEND — The Church of BuVu will sponsor PT Story Slam from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.

The free storytelling event will be at Discovery Bay Brewing, 948 N. Park Ave.

Stories are limited to 5-6 minutes in length.

House of Kloo-Aathl

PORT TOWNSEND — Walter McQuillen will present “House of Kloo-Aathl: How we are related to the whales” at 7 p.m. Friday.

The presentation is at the Northwest Maritime Center, 431 Water St.

McQuillen will share Makah oral traditions about becoming related to the gray whales.

There will be light refreshments and coffee.

Admission is by donation, proceeds will benefit the Port Townsend Food Bank.

Singer-songwriter

PORT TOWNSEND — Singer-songwriter Buddy Mondlock will perform at 7 p.m. Friday.

The concert is at Northwind Arts Center, 701 Water St.

The Nashville-based musician performs folk music.

Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased at buddynwa.brownpapertickets.com or at the door.

Mondlock will also teach a songwriting workshop on Saturday at Rainshadow Recording.

Swing dance

PORT TOWNSEND — Jonathan Doyle and Band will perform for a swing dance at 8 p.m. Friday.

The dance will be at the Elks Lodge, 555 Otto St.

Doyle and the band will be joined by special guests Casey MacGill and Nate Parker.

Admission is $12 per person and includes a free smooth lindy dance lesson from Janice Eklund at 7 p.m.

Square dance

CHIMACUM — Dave Thielk and Joanne Pontrello will be calling a square dance from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday.

The dance will be at Finnriver Farm & Cidery, 124 Center Road.

Music will be performed by the Live String Band.

Admission is free. Donations will benefit Dare to Be Square.

SEQUIM

Bunco and casseroles

SEQUIM — The Sequim Guild will host a bunco party from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday.

The fundraiser will be at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave.

Admission is $15 per person.

In addition to bunco, the benefit will feature a silent auction and a luncheon with four homemade casseroles, salad and dessert.

Proceeds will go toward uncompensated care at Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Soroptimist luncheon

PORT ANGELES — Tom Sanford, the executive director of the North Olympic Land Trust, will address a luncheon meeting of Soroptimist International of Port Angeles at noon Friday.

The public is invited to attend the luncheon at Joshua’s Restaurant, 113 S. Del Guzzi Drive.

Lunch is available for purchase; a minimum charge of $4 will be charged for beverages and the venue.

Sanford will present a brief history of the trust, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.

Masonic bingo

PORT ANGELES — Mason’s Lodge 69 will host bingo from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday.

The lodge is at 622 S. Lincoln St.

Proceeds benefit Lodge programs.
