First Night schedule for Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND — First Night, the New Year’s Eve festival on and around Pope Marine Park at Water and Madison streets, is free to the public, while donations are welcome: $10 per person or $20 per family are suggested.

Face masks will be mandatory indoors and outdoors, and scheduled activities are subject to changes in the weather.

Here’s the lineup of festivities on Friday.

Pope Marine Building, Water and Madison streets

• 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.: Lantern decorating with Thaddeus Jurczynski and the Northwind Art staff

Jefferson Museum of Art & History, 540 Madison St.

• 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.: Scavenger hunt and “Resolution in a Bottle” activity.

• 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.: Free samples of Toshikoshi Soba noodle soup, a Japanese custom to usher in the new year.

Cotton Building, 607 Water St.

• 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.: Harmonica Pocket plays music for all ages.

• 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.: Discovery Bay Wild Bird Rescue presents its educational raptor ambassadors: rehabilitated birds of prey perched on the gloves of volunteers.

Main stage tent on Pope Marine Park

• 4:45 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.: The Shift band plays folk rock with a reggae backbone.

• 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.: Uncle Funk & the Dope Six fill the air with funkified rock’n’roll.

On Pope Marine Park Plaza

• 5:30 p.m.: Local jugglers perform.

• 6:15 p.m.: The Unexpected Brass Band leads the lantern parade.

• 7:45 p.m. The fire dancers’ troupe performs.

Above Memorial Field, visible from downtown and Uptown vantage points

• 9 p.m. Anchor raising and fireworks display.
