SEQUIM — The 18th annual North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival is set this weekend during First Friday Art Walk.
It includes the juried fiber arts exhibition “Spinning Sewn Stories — Promulgate, Piece, & Ply” at Sequim Museum & Arts, 544 N. Sequim Ave.
During the First Friday Art Walk Sequim reception from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., many fiber artists and fiber arts advocates will demonstrate their artistry. The festival continues from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday with a reception from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to meet the artists.
The 2023 fiber arts exhibition artists include Lora Armstrong, Lynn Baritelle, Renne Emiko Brock, Sam Chonko, Liisa Fagerlund, Cary Bryer Fallert-Gentry, MarySue French, Lynn Gilles, Jennifer Harris, Estelle Jackson, Debra E. Olson, Sharle Osborne, Marla Varner and Jean Wyatt.
Visitors also can meet local fiber artists on Nov. 3 during that First Friday Art Walk and on Saturday, Nov. 25, during the Small Business Saturday Fiber Arts Market.
First Friday Art Walk Sequim is a free, self-guided tour of local art venues in Sequim from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. the first Friday of every month. Visit SequimArt Walk.com to download and print a own map, find special events, links and how to be part of art.
Each First Friday Art Walk has a color theme. This Friday the theme is orange, “a warm, spicy, energizing, appetizing, sweet, zesty color that inspires optimism and activity,” said Brock, who organizes the art walks.
A new venue for the Sequim Art Walk is Over the Fence, a destination home and garden store at 118 E. Washington St. This venue is hosting one of its local makers. Jack from Cupcake Candle Co. will be joining them with some of his bath and body products and woodwick candles.
Other special events
• Blue Whole Gallery, 129 W. Washington St., has the exhibition “Baby It’s Cold Outside” as it partners with the Sequim Warming Center. Veteran artists Sheri Whetstine (glass artist), Janet Piccola (potter) and Jean Glaser (painter) curate the gallery windows with fine art.
• The A. Milligan Art Studio and Gallery, 520 N. Sequim Ave., hosts guest Linda Tilley. Her exhibition in the main gallery immerses viewers in the beauty of the natural world. Painting primarily in oil, Tilley said she is drawn to paint “en plein air,” inspired by the intensity of color, light, atmosphere and the energies of the world outside. While visiting, view Anne Milligan’s pastel studio for a peek at her works in progress and see her finished pieces on display in the digital studio.
• La Petite Maison Blanche, 213 E. Washington St., features artist Corinne Humphrey. Her vibrant paintings are inspired by former rescue mutts Rudy and Adobe.
• Wild Goddess Brews-n-Bites, 145 E. Washington St., Suite D, has small bites, salads, dips and boards. Have a seat and enjoy a wide selection of beverages along with live music.
• Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St., and the City Arts Advisory Commission hosts the opening reception of “Elemental: Fire, Water, Wood, Earth, Metal, Air” on view in the Karen Kuznek-Reese Gallery. Also, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. is the First Friday Open Music Jam. Visitors can bring an acoustic instrument and/or voice for an informal gathering of people who like to make music.
• Pacific Mist Books, 122 W. Washington St., offers an eclectic mix of new and vintage books, cards and gifts including local authors and artists.
• Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County’s Sequim Habitat Boutique Store, 213 E. Washington St., has live music with OG from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
• Forage Gifts & Northwest Treasures, 121 W. Washington St., features local artists and gifts.
• Rainshadow Café, 157 West Cedar St., has live music with Dawn & Steve from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Singing and dancing is encouraged.
• Sequim Spice and Tea, 139 W. Washington St., has glass, pottery, illustration and photography of local artists, along with tea blends, teapots and cups and culinary gifts.
• Cedarbrook Lavender Gift Shop, 120 W. Washington St., will offer locally created gifts, with farm-fresh lavender creations, treats and inspired vintage décor items.
• Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., offers award-winning, artfully crafted wines and appetizing tidbits.
• Soup in the Alley, 138 W. Washington St., features a rotation of local artists, live music and treats.
