Finnriver plans Solstice Jamboree Weekend in Chimacum

CHIMACUM — Finnriver Orchard will host the Summer Solstice Jamboree Weekend on Saturday and Sunday.

The Finnriver weekend is free and open to the public. To support its live music program, the orchard raises the price of draft pours by $1 during music events. All funds are used to pay musicians.

Finnriver events are family-friendly. Smoking is prohibited and guests are asked to leave the outside food, alcohol and dogs at home.

On Saturday, Finnriver will host Drunken Maidens from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and The Crow Quill Night Owls from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in its cider garden at 124 Center Road.

The Drunken Maidens, inspired by groups such as Sweet Honey in the Rock and the Wailin’ Jennys, sing in tight vocal harmonies and play instruments such as fiddle, mandolin, guitar, melodeon, fife, whistle and percussion, according to a news release. Threads from traditional ballads, shanties, Americana, folk dance tunes and even early music are woven together to produce their colorful and varied repertoire, according to the release.

The Crow Quill Night Owls are a band that plays jug band, jazz and string band music of the 1920s and 1930s. They were formed in 2007 by guitarist Kit “Stymee” Stovepipe and tenor banjoist Windy City Alex.

On Sunday, the cider garden will host Little Silver from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Crushwater from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Steve Curtis and Erika Simonian of Little Silver were both touring musicians when they met in New York some years ago — he with the tranquil folk group Hem and she with myriad harder-rocking outfits. They fell in love and married two years later, forming Little Silver as a duo in 2010, said the news release.

Crushwater of Port Angeles consists of Scott Sullivan and violinist Chandra Johnson. Together, they have been perfecting their own unique style of music — one that draws upon diverse musical influences in rock, punk, indie, folk, Latin and Americana music to create original, high-energy rock filled with soaring melodies and unique lyrics.

Cider tastings, flights, draft pours and apple brandy cocktails at the tasting room and cider garden will be available from noon to 9 p.m. Tastings will end at 5:30 p.m.

Food offerings will include a range of locally sourced picnic items as well Finnriver house-made bratwurst and salads, Dented Buoy wood-fired pizza and Le crepe de Quimper crepe cart.
