PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Fine Art Center will host an opening reception for Hannah Klaus Hunter’s “Turning Point” on Friday.
The Whidbey Island artist will be on hand for the reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Esther Webster Gallery of the center at 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd. in Port Angeles.
All community members are invited to the opening reception to view the new exhibit for the first time, meet the artist and enjoy a beverage in the courtyard. There will be a presentation from the artist beginning at 5:30 p.m.
This newest exhibition by Hunter will be on display through Nov. 6. The Esther Webster Gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays.
“Turning Point” is a collection of printmaking and collage that explores seasonal change and environmental shifts through light, temperature and local plant life. The collection covers five years of observation and art making.
Hunter holds a bachelor’s in studio art from the University of Iowa, a master’s from the California College of the Arts in textiles and sculpture, and a post-master’s certificate in art therapy from the University of California at Berkeley.
“We are thrilled to have Hannah Klaus Hunter exhibiting at the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center,” said Rachel Storck, community engagement manager of the center.
“In addition to having her artwork on display and an artist’s presentation at the opening reception, we are excited that Hannah will also be instructing a gelli printmaking workshop right here in the gallery, which will be a very cool opportunity for people to learn directly from the artist whose work surrounds them.”
The Gelli Printmaking Workshop will take place the following day on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Esther Webster Gallery.
Gelli printing is a way to create monoprints.
Using gel plates, acrylic paints and paper, the Gelli printing process allows beginners and advanced art makers alike to produce striking and beautiful works,” Storck said.
The workshop will take students through a series of different printing techniques and allow time to complete a finished print.
Limited spots are available for the workshop. Tickets are $75 for members of the center and $85 for general tickets.
