PORT ANGELES — The second annual Pacific Northwest Fiber Arts Expo will offer goods, activities and demonstrations Saturday and Sunday at the Vern Burton Community Center in Port Angeles. The free expo will consist of a craft marketplace, activities, demonstrations and a spinning circle from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
“Our goal is to bring together all the talent and skills of the region to create a unique venue to celebrate the wide range of fiber-related arts and crafts,” said Beth Witters, marketing coordinator for the event.
“From spinning to felting, knitting to weaving, quilting to rug-hooking and more, we plan to showcase, demonstrate, instruct and inspire.”
Free daily activities and demonstrations include Fixing Knitting Mistakes, Intro to loom knitting, joining crochet granny squares and locker hooking.
Paid workshops begin Friday and continue through Saturday and Sunday. They including knitting, crochet, spinning, weaving, punch needle, rug hooking, embroidery, wet felting, Japanese-inspired Boro, kumihimo on a Maru Dai, Viking knitting and basketry. Registration is closed for the workshops.
Funding of the exposition is made possible by a City of Port Angeles Lodging Tax Grant and donations from the community. Major sponsors include Cabled Fiber & Yarn and St. Distaff’s Day Spin-in. Community Partners include the 8th Street Emporium, Cabled Fiber & Yarn, Needles in the Nest, North Olympic Shuttle & Spindle Guild, Suzy B Studios, North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival and Twisted Strait Fibers.
