PORT HADLOCK — Garments, quilts, collages and wall hangings are among the 40 pieces in “Under the Influence of Fiber,” a two-month exhibit opening Sunday at the Old Alcohol Plant.

Artists will be at the opening day reception from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Organized by the North Olympic chapter of the Surface Design Association, the exhibit at the Old Alcohol Plant at 310 Hadlock Bay Road will include the work of 25 artists from Port Angeles, Sequim, Port Townsend, Chimacum, Nordland, Port Ludlow and Bainbridge Island.

The show will close March 17. The exhibit can be seen at the Old Alcohol Plant from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Among the techniques illustrated in the work are several forms of dyeing, embroidery, beading, weaving, felting, transfer of photographic images, paper making and fabric manipulation.

The artists in the Peninsula chapter produce both functional/wearable and non-functional pieces.

Since the chapter formed in 2013, members have shown pieces in juried gallery exhibitions, wearable art shows, museum exhibits, community libraries and retail spaces.

The chapter meets monthly to share current projects, learn more about specific textile techniques from each other, listen to invited speakers and prepare for group shows.

The group generally meets the second Wednesday of the month. Locations and times vary.

The next meeting will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 13 at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., for a Stash Swap.

For more information and to find the meeting sites and times, see sda-np.com. The Facebook page is at facebook.com/groups/SDA.NP.
