Fiber arts, mixed media on view during art walk

PORT ANGELES — Fiber arts and mixed media paintings will be highlighted at Studio Bob and Harbor Arts during the Second Saturday Art Walk in Port Angeles.

The Sixth annual Fiber Arts Exhibition sponsored by Cable Fiber & Yarn will be on view at Studio Bob, 118 1/2 E. Front St., both Saturday and Sunday this weekend.

The reception for the free exhibit will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with live music by Tin Sandwich and Special Guests. The show will continue Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. An onsite bar will offer beer, wine, ciders, soft drinks, coffee and tea.

“We define fiber art very loosely,” said MarySue French, one of the organizers of the event.

“In previous years, we had a wide mix of artwork including spinning, felting, weaving, quilting, painted silk, knitting, crochet, costumes, fiber paintings and sculptures, needle punched, braided and woven rugs, hats and even included driftwood art and jewelry,” she said.

Harbor Art Gallery, 114 N. Laurel St. will feature the work of mixed media artist Nancy McFaul throughout the month of September.

Visitors can meet her and other artists at the gallery between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday.

In her newest series, McFaul uses pen, ink and watercolor to paint various everyday objects, scenes, people and pets on butcher paper to create one-of-a-kind wrapping paper or what she calls “Casual Paintings.”

McFaul studied design in San Francisco and Berkeley, Calif., before moving to Seattle where she raised a family and worked in their small specialty bakery in the Pike Place Market.

In her spare time, she took drawing and painting classes at Gage Academy.

McFaul now resides in Port Angeles.

“I enjoy the spectacular beauty and great community here,” McFaul said.

Harbor Art Gallery also showcases work by local artists Bob Stokes, Cindy Elstrom, Carolyn Guske, Robert Amaral, Garret DeLaBarre, Terri Enck, Katie Graham, Tammy Hall, Susan Kantowitz, Ruth Kaspin, Gail McLain, Roger Mosley, Eric Neurath, Miranda Petruska, Randy and Sallie Radock, Jodi Riverstone, Nathan Shields, Lance and Haley Snider, Eileen Webb, Kevin Willson and Andrèa Woods.
