Fiber art, block prints on display in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — The third annual Fiber Arts Exhibit, showcasing local and regional fiber artists and artisans, will be hosted by Studio Bob with an artists’ reception during the Second Saturday Art Walk.

Opening night and artist reception for the exhibit will be from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Studio Bob at 118½ E Front St.

Those unable to attend Saturday’s opening can see it from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, when artist demonstrations are planned.

The exhibit also will be open during the Arts & Draughts festival weekend Sept. 21-23 from noon to 4 p.m. each day.

Many forms of fiber art — spinning, felting, weaving, quilting, crochet, rug punching, sewing, costumes, fiber sculpture, rugs and others — will be on display.

The Fiber Arts Exhibit is a non-juried event sponsored by Cabled Fiber & Yarn.

Submissions include items recently completed and displayed at the Clallam County Fair and family fiber heirlooms that embody the history of fiber arts brought down through the ages.

“We’re thrilled to have this exhibit again this year,” said MarySue French, co-owner of Cabled Fiber & Yarn.

“Each year we include new artists showcasing the extensive talents of our community and it gives the public a chance to learn about different fiber art techniques.”

There will be a no-host bar serving beer and wine in The Loom during the opening.

Other venues on this month’s art walk are:

• Harbor Art Gallery, 114 N. Laurel St., where Sequim block printer Randy Radock is the artist of the month for September.

He will be present from 4 p.m to 7 p.m. Saturday.

He will also be at the gallery during the Arts & Draughts Festival on Laurel Street.

Radock moved west from Wisconsin in 1966. After retiring as a construction manager in 1998, he took block printing classes and now works out of his studio in Sequim.

He has won awards in open and juried exhibits on the Olympic Peninsula and in the Seattle area for his photography and block printing and his art was chosen to be shown in the state lieutenant governor’s office, organizers said.

His art has been published in arts and literary publications and is in a permanent public art display.

Radock’s art also can be viewed in the Elwha Klallam Heritage Center’s Great Hall at 3401 E. First St.

His art reflects his interest in wildlife, North American and First Nations artistry and his travels to the seven continents of the world.

• Landing Artists Studio, in The Landing mall at 115 E. Railroad Ave., will feature all the studio artists and a marine theme.

It will be open from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The public is invited and light refreshments will be served.

On display will be marine jewelry, mixed media pieces, acrylic beach scenes, ornaments, hand made yarn and painted rocks.

Artists will be on hand to display and demonstrate their craft.

The Studio has six full time and five part-time artists who create art on-site.

The public is always welcome to watch, ask questions, and interact with the artists.

• One of a Kind Art Gallery, in The Landing mall at 115 E. Railroad Ave., Suite 105, will offer demonstrations by its artists of the month, Janet Piccola and Gary Rainwater, during the art walk.

Live music and appetizers will be served from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Sequim wood block printer Randy Radock said he enjoys printing on a variety of materials, including fabric. He is artist of the month at Harbor Art Gallery.
