Fellows, faculty in chamber music concerts at Fort Worden

PORT TOWNSEND — The Olympic Music Festival will present the first two concerts in the Olympic Chamber Music Fellowship program at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Fellows in the program will perform alongside faculty artists in the Wheeler Theater at Fort Worden State Park, 200 Battery Way.

The concert series will be at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sundays at Wheeler Theater through Sept. 8, except for Aug. 24-25 when they will be at the Northwest Maritime Center.

Tickets range from $20 to $60, depending on seating and concert, at www.olympicmusicfestival.org and by phone at 800-838-3006.

This year marks the fifth year of the Olympic Music Fellowship, an internationally recognized educational program for young artists.

Considered as one of the most unique professional training programs in the country, the fellowship provides young artists the practical experience they need to navigate the grueling demands of a professional career, organizers said.

Saturday’s concert, “Transcendence” will feature works by Brahms, Shostakovich and Schubert.

The concert Sunday, “Musical Forefathers” will feature compositions by J.S. Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Mendelssohn that illustrate the profound impact each composer had on music history — from Bach’s intricacy to Mendelssohn’s romantic virtuosity.

The faculty artists performing will be Steven Copes, violin; Ayane Kozasa, viola; Jennifer Culp, cello; and Julio Elizalde, piano. The fellows are Adelya Nartadjieva, violin; SoHui Yun, viola; Sein Lee, cello; and Chelsea Wang, piano.
