Farewell exhibit highlights Janda at the Blue Whole Gallery

SEQUIM — Carol Janda, who has exhibited at the Blue Whole Gallery for 19 years, is moving and the gallery is hosting a special display of her work throughout December.

The gallery at 129 W. Washington St., Sequim is providing a guestbook for friends and admirers to share their good wishes as she leaves the area, as it presents one last local look of her work. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Janda is moving to Issaquah to be near her daughter.

“The gallery will miss her wit and unfailing positive outlook,” gallery organizers said.

Janda’s expertise and interests range from watercolor to oil painting and pottery, and at 89, she is still exploring new mediums.

Janda grew up in Maryland and moved west when she married a young forestry student. First locating to Montana, they moved to Glacier Bay, Alaska, where they lived for 16 years. The last move was to Washington state where she has been enamored with the oceans and mountains for more than 40 years.

Her time in Clallam County has included teaching in the Peninsula College Continuing Education program, conducting workshops, and giving countless demonstrations. She has been a signature member the Northwest Watercolor Society and a director of the Clallam Art League. She is also a member of Sequim Arts.

On top of her numerous accomplishments; she has raised two children and enjoyed teaching and mentoring many aspiring artists, the gallery said.
