PORT HADLOCK — An Evening at Hogwarts will mark the start of the Jefferson County Library’s summer reading program Monday.
Participants will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the publication of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” at 6 p.m. at the library at 620 Cedar Ave.
Visitors can make wands, be sorted into a house, win points for their houses by answering trivia questions, hunt for magical creatures and have their photographs taken with Harry and his wizard friends and professors.
Costumes and cameras are suggested.
Teens interested in volunteering the night of the event can contact Russ Stamp, teen librarian, or Martha Ashenfelter, youth services librarian.
During the party or anytime this summer, all ages can register for the summer reading program, which, like its Clallam County counterpart, has the theme of “Build a Better World.”
Registration can be done at the county library, the Port Townsend Library or the Jefferson County Library bookmobile beginning Monday.
During the program, each child or teen can earn a book by reading 10 hours.
Each will earn a T-shirt designed by local artist Annalisa Barelli after reading 50 hours.
Each adult can earn a T-shirt by reading 100 hours.
To get started, sign up at either the Jefferson County Library, the Port Townsend Library or on the Jefferson County Library bookmobile beginning Monday.
Events are planned throughout the summer for children, teens and adults at the Jefferson County Library and at the Quilcene Community Center, 294952 U.S. Highway 101.
The program finale, offering group games, will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 9.
