PORT TOWNSEND — Port Townsend Friends Meeting House, 1841 Sheridan St., will host a CD release party from 7 to 9 tonight to celebrate “Golden Thread,” a debut album by the The Aimées.
The band will perform during the celebration.
Entry is on a sliding scale of $10 to $20 at the door.
The band consists of Aimée Kelley and Aimée Ringle, a dynamic singing duo based in Port Townsend who have been collaborating and performing together for the past six years, according to a news release.
With luminous harmonies and a guitar, their music explores the themes of birth, death, home, belonging, creation, restoration and communion.
Dubbed The Aimées almost immediately by friends and fans, they’ve shared their music at concerts and festivals across the country from Iowa to Kauai and all over the West Coast.
Their debut album, “Golden Thread” was released in early September, and their album tour stops include the homes of their many festival audiences.
Hard copies and digital download cards of their new album will be available at the show.

Art exhibit opens
PORT TOWNSEND — The Northwind Arts Center, 701 Water St., beginning this week will host Poem Inspired, an art exhibit celebrating 10 years of Northwind Reading Series with Bill Mawhinney as its host and curator.
An opening reception is slated for 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.
The show runs through Oct. 31.
Mawhinney put out a call to all poets who have read at the series throughout the past decade asking them to submit a poem. Forty-eight poets responded, with 10 poems selected for inclusion in the exhibit by jury, according to a news release.
Artists were then challenged to create work inspired by one of the poems.
The art work will be juried by Susan Christian, founder and owner of Salon Refu in Olympia.
Christian studied art at Wellesley College, Boston Museum School and Cranbrook Academy of Art.
She was a fulltime visiting artist at New England Collage and The Evergreen State College. Her work has been shown at Union Art Cooperative and Seattle Print Arts as well as numerous local and regional shows.
Exhibit hours are 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursdays through Mondays, and from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Live readings in PT
PORT TOWNSEND — Writers’ Workshoppe and Imprint Books, 820 Water St., will host readings of works written by screenwriter and essayist Sonya Lea of Seattle and students who have participated in her writer’s workshops at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Lea teaches writing at Hugo House in Seattle, and she’s leading a pilot project to teach writing to women veterans through the Red Badge Project.
Lea’s memoir, “Wondering Who You Are,” is about her husband’s cancer treatment through which he lost the memory of their life. Excerpts from the book won an international memoir prize and an Artist Trust Award.
Lea’s essays and interviews have appeared in Salon, The Southern Review, Brevity, Guernica, Cold Mountain Review, Tricycle, The Prentice Hall College Reader, The Rumpus and The Butter.
She has won several screenwriting awards, and has placed in the Nicholl Fellowship, an international competition established by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Lea also has written television series for production houses as well as adapted novels for the screen.
