ENTERTAINMENT BRIEFS: Application deadline set for showcase; Art studio to have brief closure

PORT TOWNSEND — The Northwind Arts Center is accepting 2D and 3D artwork to be considered for inclusion in the Artist Showcase.

The Artist Showcase, now in its third year, provides an ongoing professional exhibit space in the Northwinds Art Center at 701 Water St.

The application deadline is Feb. 15.

The Artist Showcase provides an alternative to a cooperative gallery setting, said spokesperson Jinx Bryant.

Artists are juried into the exhibit for a period of nine months. The artist’s work is presented in a curated show, hung by Northwind and rotated monthly.

Artists are not required to staff the exhibit space and take 70 percent of the sale price of their art.

In exchange, for a monthly fee of $50, Northwind provides jurying of artists for acceptance into the exhibit, trained volunteer staffing and a downtown location with professional lighting, Bryant said.

A panel of one outside juror and one Northwind curatorial staff person will determine which artists are accepted

The juror for 2017 is Martha Jordan, director of the Winslow Art Center on Bainbridge Island.
