FORKS — Courtney Bobsin of the University of Washington School of Environmental and Forest Sciences will speak on “Wild Edible Plants in Western Washington” at 7 tonight at the Olympic Natural Resources Center.
There are no admission fees for the Evening Talk lectures at ONRC, 1455 S. Forks Ave.
Bobsin will present a talk about wild edible plants in Western Washington and the Olympic Peninsula, according to a news release.
She received her master’s degree from the University of Washington with a focus on understory plant growth in a long-term ecosystem productivity study.
She is familiar with the Forks area as she was a lead intern for several years on the Long Term Eco Productivity Site near Sappho.
Working out of the university campus in Seattle, Bobsin will speak as an ONRC staff member focusing on ethnoforestry on the Olympic Peninsula.
She is a plant enthusiast who enjoys foraging all over the Pacific Northwest.
Bobsin will focus on plant identification techniques, examples of the best plants to forage for, and those to stay away from. She will go through different edible roots, shoots, berries and everything in between so folks feel confident exploring and tasting their way through the woods.
Evening Talks at ONRC are funded through the Rosmond Forestry Education Fund, an endowment that honors the contributions of Fred Rosmond and his family to forestry and the Forks community.
Refreshments will be served and attendees are invited to bring a favorite dessert to share.
