PORT ANGELES — Tickets for the crash and bang of cars in the Demolition Derby go on sale at 9 a.m. today outside the yellow gate at the Clallam County Fair.
Tickets to the derby are $15 in addition to admission to the fair at the Clallam County Fairgrounds at 1608 W. 16th St., in Port Angeles next to Lincoln Park and the Fairchild International Airport.
The Demolition Derby, on the last day of the annual fair, will be in the grandstand at 5 p.m.
Fair admission is $8 for adults, $6 for those 62 and older and students 13 to 17, and $5 for children 6 to 12. Admission is free for children 5 and younger.
Today’s hours are from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. for the gates and buildings. The carnival will be open from noon to 7 p.m.
At 2 p.m. today will be the fair’s ninth-annual Variety and Talent Show on the Wilder Stage. Performers will compete for $350 in cash prizes.
The rodeo returns for a second day of thrills in the grandstand from noon to 3 p.m.
A variety of other animal shows will entertain. Today’s offerings include costume classes for cats, dogs, sheep and goats beginning at 3 p.m. and a 4-H Horse and Rider Watermelon Eating Contest at 4 p.m.
Dog demonstrations are planned from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Dog Barn. Beekeepers, gardeners and lavender association members will offer demonstrations in the Agricultural Barn, while the Art Barn will offer demonstrations all day and the North Olympic Railroaders operate a train display in the Home Arts Building.
And of course, there is the food.
Among food vendors are those offering specialty egg rolls (with apple pie, peanut-butter-and-jelly, pizza and breakfast varieties), Indian tacos, chicken sandwiches and wraps, deep-fried (almost) everything, seafood paella, kebabs — as per tradition — scones come courtesy of Dry Creek Grange.
