Debut performance Thursday for Port Townsend chamber orchestra

PORT TOWNSEND — The Ladies Chamber Orchestra and Benevolent Society will make a debut performance at a special Candlelight Concert showcasing an array of songs focused on dance music at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The program will be at Trinity United Methodist Church, 609 Taylor St.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. Admission will be a suggested $10 donation to benefit Port Townsend organizations and Trinity’s music and restoration program.

Refreshments will be served following the performance.

LCOBS’ program for the September Candlelight Concert will feature dance music from a variety of cultures and periods, including selections from the 17th century Terpsichore collection of Michael Praetorius, traditional Celtic and Scottish dances, and two Cuban dances by Ignacio Cervantes, as well as music by G.F. Handel.

Lee Inman will lead a medley of traditional Scottish songs, including “Evangeline,” “She Rose and Let Me In,” “Jenny my Blithest Maid” and “Maggie Lauder.”

The society is an ensemble of strings, recorders, and keyboard instruments founded by Dahti Blanchard in 2016 to showcase the talent and expertise of professional and skilled amateur women musicians in Port Townsend and vicinity.

Its members are like-minded individuals who strive for two things — sharing in the joy of music and endeavoring to help others, organizers said.
